I went photo hunting today with the Canon 600D, stock lens. I feel as though I am playing with an ice cube from the tip of the ice berg which is the capabilities of this camera. You can see my favorites on my flickr page here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rebecca-mi/sets/72157632938309269/
Am I enjoying my camera? You can bet your sweet bippy I'm loving that damn thing, bouncing around on my sweating chest as I poke around the corners, under bridges, and down tiny alleys for the next shot. I started today with shots from the BTS station, a mobile coffee shop, and the wood carving section of downtown BKK. I walked through the area that services all of your Thai temple needs, including some lovely bags, eight-fold-path-wheel-of-dharma shampoo, monk towels (including illustrated directions for use), and startlingly realistic statues of monks gone by (when you don't have a monk handy...).
I wandered through Wats known for their murals and found scenes of a gleeful hunter missing the deer and striking his friend in four mural covered walls half-peeling. There was the tree missing most of its middle and festooned by locals for its ability to continue while being mostly air. I also climbed the golden mount for a 360 view of the city and some shots of character-rich bells rang regularly by Thai folks offering prayers.
I also walked through two art galleries, one featuring a selection of contemporary art from 8 countries in Asia, the other, The Queen's Gallery, had only one artist and it was more than enough. I bought the book, climbed back onto the long-tail Klong taxi, and headed home to watch the sun set over downtown while reviewing the photos and enjoying an ice cold maa dang bia.
Tomorrow... Birthday. Strategizing.
